Wilderness area along WV / VA border managed by the Jefferson Nat'l Forest. There are no markings indicating its existence on the WV boundary of the wilderness. Large relatively undistrubed forest Oak / Heath on drier aspects. Red Oak on large narrow ridge to the N (JENF.7).;Dry forest community dominated by 2nd growth Quercus (prinus, rubra, coccinea, and velutina). Over a rather dense shrub layer of Nyssa and Castanea. The forest floor is densely covered with heavily browsed out Menzizia and Vaccinium. There is an unusually large amount of Galax in the herb layer. A forb that I am unfamiliar with seeing in such abundance in WV.
Representativeness
Large patch of Oak / Heath forest growing on NNW aspect. Plot was placed to sample the windy ridges polygon located within the Mtn. Lake Wilderness.
